“The Palestinan people does not exist”

Who said so? A right wing Israeli?

No.

But PLO executive committee member Zuhayr Muhsin in 1977:

The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct “Palestinian people” to oppose Zionism.
For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.

NB: However there is no doubt that the Palestinian nation exists today.

A new computer center

The PA under Mahmud Abbas opened – with money from the west – a new computer center. As usual, the center was names after a famous person. The Palestinians decided to name it after Dalal Mughrabi.
But who was Dalal Mughrabi?
Dalal Mughrabi lived from 1959 to 1978. ┬áIn 1978 – together with 10 Palestinians – she landed at Israels coast. First they murdered an American photographer, then kidnapped a cab, after murdering the passengers. Later they kidnapped to busses and eventually murdered the passengers. All together they killed 37 people (among them 10 children).

For many Palestinians – and for the PA – these makes her a hero whose name should be the name of a public institution.

There is already a Mughrabi school in Hebron and in Gaza. Also summer camps and military or police courses are used bear her name.

Secular Palestine

The myth of a secular Palestine, of a secular Palestinian society, is still alive.
Although with the rise of Hamas this topos becomes eventually a cynical joke. Or an arguement to blame Israel for the nemesis of the Palestinian secular society, which – so the legend – existed.

Benny Morris recently explained, that the idea of a secular Palestinian society is not more than the dream of pro-Palestinian European leftists.
